Paypal has announced  150  new jobs in Dublin today and Fidelity in Galway has announced an expansion of 100 jobs, but maybe you really want to start your own business, and if you decide to do it in Kilkenny ( and you win the competition 🙂 ) you are sure to set off with a great start ( and great help!)

Ireland is far from beaten and despite the recession and negativity there are hundreds of entrepreneurs who have great ideas and who need support to get up and running.
Businesses successfully established and operating in 11 Patrick Street in Kilkenny have come together to reach out and give back some of their knowledge, experience, and skills to help a new company get up and running in 2011.
The 11 Patrick Street “GIVING A START” Competition 2011 is aimed at encouraging potential entrepreneurs to follow their dream and to start their own business.
The judging panel will include Bobby Kerr CEO of Insomnia and of “Dragons Den“, Paula Fitzsimons, of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, and Terry Clune of
The winner’s prize is valued at €25,000.

This prize will be made up as follows:

. Office, business support, conference and meeting rooms in11 Patrick Street
. Accommodation and events in the adjoining Pembroke Hotel
. Support and consultancy from businesses in 11 Patrick Street to the value of €3,000.00 per business.

-Optimize Recruitment
-Real Solutions company and staff training and coaching
-Fitzwilliam Partnership, Strategic and Financial Management

. Support from the Invest Kilkenny Business Support Unit and seed money of €1,000
. A strong PR campaign behind the competition locally and nationally aimed at giving profile to the winner and finalists.

How to apply?
. Complete a Professional Business Plan in the format below to be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday March 4th 2011.

The ideas will be shortlisted based on their level of innovation, creativity and originality, understanding of commercial realities and overall potential for success. Five entries will be shortlisted on Friday March 25th. Shortlisted applicants will be required to undertake a short presentation on their business idea to the panel of judges. The winner will be deemed by the judges to have the greatest overall potential for long-term success.

The winner will be announced at a function in The Pembroke Hotel, Kilkenny, on Thursday March 31st.
